Where We Find Asbestos Pipe Insulation

Common discovery points in pre-1980 Boise homes

🔧

Basement Pipe Runs

White, gray or canvas-jacketed wrap along hot-water and steam lines — often hidden behind later finishing work.

🔥

Boiler & Water-Heater Wrap

Jacket insulation, breeching to the chimney, and cement-like coatings on older heating equipment.

💨

HVAC Duct Insulation

Wrap on plenums and trunk lines in crawlspaces — the most common surprise during furnace replacements.

⚙️

Elbows & Fittings

Mudded insulation at joints, valves and tees — frequently a different material than the straight runs.

Glove-Bag Removal Process

How we keep fibers out of your air

Test & confirm

Samples of the wrap — and separately, elbow mud — go to an accredited lab. Straight runs and fittings can test differently.

Isolate the area

Sealed barriers, HVAC isolation and HEPA negative air turn the work zone into a regulated area.

Glove-bag removal

Insulation is wetted and removed inside sealed enclosures fitted around the pipe — fibers never reach open air.

HEPA clean & clearance

Surfaces are HEPA-vacuumed and wet-wiped, then visually inspected with air clearance where required.

Documented disposal

Waste travels under manifest to an approved landfill. You keep the paper trail for your records.

Pipe Insulation Questions

What does asbestos pipe insulation look like?

It may be white, gray, chalky, corrugated, canvas-covered or cement-like — but appearance alone proves nothing. Elbows often contain different materials than straight runs. Only lab testing confirms what's on your pipes.

The wrap on my pipes is crumbling. What should I do?

Keep people and pets away. Don't touch, tape or vacuum it. Damaged thermal insulation may be friable and near airflow — call us and we'll prioritize the visit.

What is glove-bag removal?

A glove bag is a sealed enclosure fitted around a pipe section with built-in gloves so workers remove insulation entirely inside the bag. It requires trained personnel, wet methods and proper waste handling — not a plastic bag taped over the problem.

Can I stay home during pipe insulation removal?

Usually yes for a contained basement or crawlspace job. The work area is sealed and you stay out of it. Larger scopes may require short relocation — we'll confirm before work begins.
